This was supposed to be a nice, easy weekend to just get stuff ready for MFF. Do some lawn work, housework, and move the pond plants into the big pond with the heaters in it. But of course, nothing goes as planned.

I got up early this morning, and went outside; it was really nice out. I thought about getting the yard mowed (it REALLY needs it!), but it was too early and chilly still. So I decided to burn some of the brances that are piled up against the house. I lit up the ones in the burning barrel and fed that fire until the ash was too much...so I started another one on the driveway, and loaded that one with the bigger limbs. Things were going well, but slowly, because there was still a damn big pile next to the hosue. So I thought, "What if I just burned it in the yard...just move it away a bit and raked the left overs into the fire? What's the worse that could happen?" Yeah, I could burn the house down, but somehow that wasn't the worst thing I could think of XD. So that's what I did...i raked a clearing in the area, pulled the main pile away about 10 feet from the house, and lit that sucker! I did have th ehose nearby just in case, but it wasn't needed. Checkig on 3 fires wan't fun, but it did what I needed....all but a few large limbs are gone, and the only reason I coudn't burn those was that the fire on the driveway was too slow in burning.what was there. And the new burn area was in a place that got a lot of wind, so it was burning too fast to watch with larger stuff.

Decided that I needed a break, so I plopped on the couch n watched TV for about 2 hours, taking a few catnaps here n there, til the phone rang about 1:15. Firr had a family emergency and needed to get to O'hare by 5 to catch a flight to Florida. So there went mowing the yard (oh darn). I picked him up at his apartment at about 2:10, and drove to the airport, dropping him off at about 4:50. Since I ws up there anyway, I thought I'd go to the Meijer that MFF uses to make sure they got the order email, since they never replied. But I was getting hungry, so I stopped into Woodfield Mall for a nosh at the A&W. Mmm...creamy rootbeer goodness. 3 mugs later, I was out, hoping to find the kiosk that sells Happy Feet, but apaprently they aren't there this year. Sucks, cause all of the ones I have need to be replaced now :P And the animation store is gone too :P Got out and drove to Meijer, and found the PFY was working, and asked if he had gotten the email; he said yes. He also mentioned that they did the order for WindyCon, and that their Con Suite guy had revised the order so many times that it had gotten totally fucked up. No, I'm not working for them next year :P

Finally got onto I-290 and headed for home around 7:10, and got stuck in some nice traffic from Mannheim until California Ave, but from then down it was pretty easy going. Talked to RC and Lucky for most of the trip, before getting in at about 10:15.

Tomorrow, I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE! I am going to get packed for the con, do some fursuit repairs (Fargo's a bit beat up since he's been worn hard this year), and do some housework.

I know it's once in a blue moon that I update this, but I'm honestly surprised I have to bring this up. There was a time I can remember when Rule 34 and whichever one specificly belongs to the furry fandom could not stop itself from flooding the intertubes with nubile re-imaginings of some strange new life forms whenever a sci-fi ish franchise introduced a new and original critter.

And yet, the interwebs have failed me thus far.

I mean, come on people! We have Borderlands, lots of wicked new critters of which the Skags are the most prominent and Iconic, they look like beefy crosses between bull-dogs and greyhounds and SATAN and their most aggressive threat-display is to bare for you their pink glistening throat-hole. C'mon! There's Xenomorph porn still being made fresh these days. What does it take? An engraved invitation? Should it be engraved on granite, basalt or marble?

Pirate Radio was pretty awesome. If you've ever seen Empire Records, it had a very similar feel to it with a bit more of a surprising twist. It seemed like a movie better enjoyed at home with friends rather than in a theater, but it's still worth seeing.

Other than that...apparently MFF is next week. How did that happen? O.o

So they think they found the army of Cambyses the Second, the Persian king.

According to Herotodus, Cambyses's army disappeared in a vast whirlwind. Never seen again, gone, disappeared, as if they never were.

So there they are. Not gone after all.

"That the Persians set forth from Oasis across the sand, and had reached about half way between that place and themselves when, as they were at their midday meal, a wind arose from the south, strong and deadly, bringing with it vast columns of whirling sand, which entirely covered up the troops and caused them wholly to disappear."

So...Do you like Geocaching? Need info on a new GPSr? Want to hear and share horror and fun stories about caching? Never heard of it??? Well, At MFF this year, join [info]luckytheevildog and myself as we share all of the above. Tales of great hides, and awesome finds, discussions on geocoins and pathtags, software, and of course, the all popular travel bugs will be covered.

Oh, for those coming to the panel on Friday night @ 7PM...we'll have a special cache for you to find! This will NOT be an official MFF event or Geocaching cache, as we would like only those coming to the panel to find it; it will not be published on Geocaching's website. So you'll have to come to the panel to get the coordinates. I have a feeling its going to be a tad harder to find than your normal ones too! And FTF will get a special prize ^.^

I've decided not to bring the badge printer to MFF since I've not gotten any leads and I don't think most people carry soft copies of their art around. I will however bring printed badges for anyone who's buying! $5 each. There's a picture a while back in my LJ history.

Also, I've found out by lack of hearing back from the gaming guy, and then lack of it being in the MFF program, that there won't be a SSBB tourney at MFF this year. Which, given the lack of space, doesn't surprise me that much, and given how many years in a row I've done it and how much it disrupts my MFF, doesn't disappoint me that much either. I will bring my Wii though and maybe there can be some Wiiness in my room! Which, BTW, at this point seems filled but one person is still a "maybe" and this is for the slot sharing my bed (and can't be in the bed if I want to, ahem, "use" it) or if preferred, using the floor.

There's my quickie update. See y'all at MFF.

During a conversation with [info]sister_bluebird, we both decided that we really liked it when people we are interested in post progress reports or progress pics. I follow a lot of talented people on LJ, and while it's always really cool to see what they are doing, it can be a little disheartening to imagine they got there easily, naturally and completely without any bumps. It's not that easy for anyone, but when you just get the results, it's easy to think that.

So, in an effort for transparency, and because [info]sister_bluebird said she would do it too, I have some of the edits that I've done for the forthcoming novella "Strange Intentions."

My writing is fairly pared down, and I do tend to believe that the words should pull their own weight, but apparently, it has the result of making my characters look and sound pretty stripped.

So.... Read more... )

So yes, that's sort of the interior of the writing I do. Kind of like looking at the seams. I can't even remember which one ended up in the version that I sent to the editor, and I am frankly a little scared to open the file to check.

Now that I've done that, I'd really like to see how the other people who read my journal do their thing, whatever it is. If you have a thing that I'm not familiar with, all the better, but regardless, more process = better!

Hmm, should probably hunt Grace down and see about getting our day started; I really, really doubt these fruit snacks actually constitute a healthy breakfast.

Currently on the docket:
A Tiger Striped Son
With Gently Smiling Jaws
Twelve Pictures From a Second World War

I've poured a quarter inch of brandy into an eight ounce tumbler. I really don't like brandy. The smell of alcohol and sweetness is making me grimace. But it's calling to me. Oh god, I want to drink it. Feel it burn all the way down. Just imagine, the unpleasant part will be over very quickly. It'll be good for you, really. A little bit in moderation. It'll make that nasty tendinitis in your right arm subside. Hell, even Harry Potter didn't really become a man until after a couple slugs of whiskey, right? Drink up, ya lush. Make like Alice and DRINK ME.

Good boy. Now why don't you finish off with a nice NyQuil chaser and call it an evening?
